Informed Choice & Continuity of Care
About Rosebuds Midwifery
Rosebuds Midwifery is more than a practice — it is a movement towards rebuilding The Village.
A sacred space where women, babies, and families are deeply seen, gently held, and wholeheartedly supported. Where evidence-based care walks hand in hand with compassion, and where no one journeys into parenthood alone.
We offer Medicare-funded appointments, antenatal care in the clinic, and postnatal support both in the clinic and within the comfort of your home, because care should meet you where you are.
With home and hospital birth packages available, and as one of the few Credentialed Midwives at Bunbury and Busselton Hospitals, Emma provides true continuity of care. She walks beside you with warmth, trust, and unwavering belief in your strength, creating a safe and nurturing path into motherhood, one family at a time.
Our Core Philosophy
Our approach is rooted in a deep belief that knowledge is power and genuine autonomy stems from understanding all your options. Inspired by the work of Dr. Sara Wickham, we passionately advocate for informed choice and respectful maternity care. You are the expert in your own experience, and our role is to support you in making decisions that feel right for you and your baby. This commitment means:
-
From essential clinical services like IV fluids and e-scripts to blood tests at home, our care is designed to be accessible, individualised, and seamless, ensuring you always feel heard, respected, and in control.
-
Recognised by the Australian College of Midwives (ACM, 2021) as the gold standard, our model ensures you are cared for by the same two familiar midwives throughout your entire journey. This reduces interventions, improves safety, and enhances satisfaction.
-
Our recommendations are based on the latest scientific research, ensuring you receive balanced, comprehensive information to weigh risks, benefits, and alternatives.
Who is Emma Stephens - Black?
Emma is more than a midwife, she is a mother of boys who believes that when we lean into trust and connection, extraordinary things happen.
Emma, is an Endorsed Midwife, Registered Nurse, and the passionate founder of Rosebuds Midwifery, a practice built on trust, connection, and the belief that birth is not simply a moment, but a profound and life-changing journey.
With over two decades of experience in healthcare, Emma brings together strong clinical knowledge and deeply compassionate care for women and families. Before becoming a midwife, she spent 10 years as a Registered Nurse across surgical and specialist areas, including wound, continence, and stoma care, building the steady clinical foundation that continues to guide her practice today.
Her midwifery path began far from home while volunteering in Nepal, where she witnessed the raw power of birth and the quiet strength of women held by the community. That experience reshaped her purpose and ignited a lifelong belief in maternal instinct, the wisdom of the body, and the importance of trust, trust in women, in birth, and in something greater than ourselves.
Motherhood deepened this understanding. Walking her own path and the journey with her children strengthened her respect for maternal instinct, resilience, and the transformative nature of birth. These experiences helped build the fire within her, a gentle but unwavering commitment to protect, honour, and support women as they step into their own power.
Today, Emma walks beside families with calm presence, skilled hands, and an open heart, holding space for trust, safety, and the quiet strength that lives within every woman.
The Vision & The Village

Rosebuds Midwifery is more than a midwifery practice; it is a movement towards rebuilding The Village. Built on a vision, a connection and a deep belief that when we come together, we create something far greater than the sum of our parts, Rosebuds is a place where women, babies and families are held, seen and supported.
Here, evidence-based care meets deep compassion. Pregnancy and birth are celebrated as powerful and transformative seasons of life. Families are nurtured long after the baby arrives. And no one walks the path alone.
Whether you birth at home or in hospital, Emma’s role is to walk beside you, to protect your story, honour your choices and remind you that you already hold the strength, wisdom and power within you.
